“Old Hippy” singer Cayouche to perform in Abram-Village May 21

Cayouche lowresABRAM-VILLAGE – May 6, 2016 – Réginald Charles Gagnon – known far and wide by his nickname Cayouche – will be returning to the Acadian Musical Village in Abram-Village by popular demande to present his very entertaining musical show for adults Saturday, May 21.

“We’re honoured that Cayouche has accepted to return to the Evangeline region for a third time to tell us some of his many stories and to play his fantastic Acadian-folk-country songs for us,” says Marcel Bernard, co-president of the Acadian Musical Village. “We are guaranteed that this purebred Acadian performer, who considers himself an ‘old hippy’, will deliver us a most entertaining evening.”

The show begins at 9 p.m. with a few opening songs by local performers Marcel Caissie and Allan Gallant. The guest of honour will then climb onto the stage with his guitar and his case of Alpine. Then whatever happens happens.

Born in Moncton, NB, in 1948, and active in the musical world since 1994, Cayouche has produced five albums and hundreds of shows. Especially known for his uniting and festive performances, the singer has maintained a constant popularity throughout Canada and Europe. The “Cayouche phenomenon” gets people from all generations singing and dancing. He is among the few Acadian popular artists in history to have sold more 100,000 albums.

Among his biggest hits are Export A, La chaine de mon tracteur, L’alcool au Volant, C’est ça mon Acadie and La reine du bingo.

Cayouche, who now lives in Maisonnette, NB, was the subject of a documentary film entitled “Cayouche : Le temps d’une bière” by Maurice André Aubin in 2009.

Tickets can be purchased at the door for $20 each or in advance at $17.50 each by calling the Acadian Musical Village at 902-854-3300, the Evangeline School-Community Centre at 902-854-2166 or Nancy Smith at 902-854-2076. Any leftover tickets will be sold at the door for $20 each.

A lunch will be available and a 50-50 draw will be held.
