« La plus belle du bal » and « Mom Overboard »

ABRAM-VILLAGE – July 6, 2016 – This summer, the Acadian Musical Village in Abram-Village will deliver two fantastic editions of its « V’nez veiller » dinner-theatre show, one in French and the other in English, to regale its audiences with lots of laughter and music. Visitors will also get to enjoy a delicious four-course meal.

“The two plays – written and directed by well-known playwright-director Wayne Robichaud – are some of the funniest romantic comedies imaginable,” says Claudette Gallant, general manager of the Acadian Musical Village. “With Mr. Robichaud’s talented productions, we are always guaranteed hilarious entertainment.”

FRENCH SHOW

The French play, presented Wednesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m., starting July 20, is entitled “La plus belle du bal” (The Belle of the Ball). Popular actor Gerald (Ge) Arsenault plays the lead character of Martin, in his forties, who decides to return to college for a mid-life career change. However, the furnished apartment he rented without checking out first is completely disgusting. He’s forced to move but the only boarding room he can find close to the college at the last minute is in the girls’ dorm.

Martin therefore transforms himself into “Martine” to fit in. But a whole series of comedic situations arise when he falls in love with one of his lovely dorm-mates. Fellow actors Julie Arsenault, Jocelyne Arsenault, Jonathan Arsenault, Kaylee Arsenault and Christina Gallant-MacLean offer up a batch of obstacles and solutions to his challenges.

ENGLISH SHOW

Every Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m., starting July 26, the English show “Mom Overboard” (a translated version of last year’s French show) stars the same bunch of actors, minus Gallant-MacLean. Tom DesRoches rounds out the cast.

It’s the story of a young man who brings his girlfriend on a romantic cruise to celebrate their fifth anniversary as a couple, but he has no choice but to bring along his overbearing mother when she finds the tickets. The two ladies can’t stand each other so the challenge is to keep them apart for the duration. But the incompetent captain, the crew and an old uncle further complicate an already messed-up situation.

These three-act plays, as always, end with a musical set, offering a great selection of Acadian songs and lively instrumental pieces. In addition, between the acts, the actors serve up a delicious four-course meal (salad, mussels, choice of three entrées and dessert). A bar service is also available. The dinner-theatres will run until the end of August.

Tickets are $32.50 plus HST for adults and $12.95 plus HST for children aged 12 and under. Tickets must be reserved in advance by calling 902-854-3300.
