WELLINGTON – Sept. 15, 2017 – Employers, business owners, managers, supervisors and safety committee members are invited to attend a free hour-long information session focusing on new changes to Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) regulations Thursday, Oct. 12, at 9 a.m., at the Wellington Rural Action Centre (RAC).

PEI’s provincial WHMIS regulations were updated in July 2017 to reflect the national changes to the Hazardous Products Acts & Regulations. Lori Wakelin, health and safety consultant from the PEI Workers Compensation Board, will be on hand to give an overview of the changes and the impact on employers. Employer responsibilities, including education and training of workers, and components to a WHMIS program will also be reviewed. Wakelin will also answer any questions participants may have.

This session will be most suited for businesses that use or sell hazardous products (such as chemicals). This information session does not provide WHMIS training or certification for workers.

Delivered in English, this session is being hosted jointly by the Wellington RAC and the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI.
