Free business workshops with specialist Ron Robichaud coming to Charlottetown

CHARLOTTETOWN – Sept. 23, 2017 – During Co-op and Small Business Week, French-speaking people who’ve recently become entrepreneurs or who are considering setting up a business are invited to participate in a free full day of business training Monday, Oct. 16, at the Carrefour de l’Isle-Saint-Jean in Charlottetown.

« We’re always looking for ways to better equip business owners and managers, so what better timing than during this week that is dedicated to them, » says Chérine Stévula, coordinator of RDÉE PEI’s LIENS project (Linking Economic Immigration to our Successes). « Our training, which will be delivered in French, is aimed at both immigrant entrepreneurs as well as business people who were born here on the Island. »

The LIENS project has hired trainer Ron Robichaud from C&R Care and Consulting from Kentville, NS, to deliver the workshops. He has several decades of experience as an entrepreneur, as a business counsellor and as a teacher. He is well-known and well-respected throughout the Atlantic Canadian business world.

« The day will be divided into two blocks of three hours, each covering a different business theme, so participants will have the choice of attending both sessions or one of the sessions of their choosing, » explains Stévula.

MORNING – STARTING A BUSINESS

The morning will begin with a breakfast at 8:30 a.m. The three-hour session on « Starting a Business » will kick off at 9 a.m. It covers the preparation of a business plan as well as financial planning and budget preparation. Participants will be encouraged to examine their personal and entrepreneurial vision as well as to analyze their project before starting it.

« Aspiring entrepreneurs, in particular, really need to take informed decisions right from the get-go to ensure the long-term success of their business, » explains the trainer.

AFTERNOON – FINANCIAL PLANNING

The day will continue at 12 noon with a lunch and at 1 p.m. with the second three-hour block of training on the topic of « Preparing a financial plan ».

Using simple terms, Robichaud will help demystify financial plans. Participants will learn to identify and interpret the key components of balance sheets, income statements and cash flow. They will receive both theoretical information as well as practical experience.

« The entrepreneur has the immense responsibility of understanding his financial statements because his profits will determine his success as well as his ability to compete in the current business world, » he concludes.

REGISTRATION

Those interested in participating in these free Oct. 16 sessions must sign up no later than Oct. 11 by contacting Chérine Stévula at (902) 370-7333, Ext. 404, or at cherine@rdeeipe.org.

The LIENS project is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada as well as by the PEI Office of Immigration, Settlement and Population.
