WELLINGTON, Î.-P.-É. – Aug. 17, 2012 – As their sales season wraps up, the adolescent participants in the “Jeunes millionnaires/Young Millionaires” entrepreneurial program say they are extremely pleased with their summer sales.
In most cases, their sales – especially during special events – considerably surpassed expectations. In fact, at least one of these small businesses has sold more than $1,000 worth of products over the summer months.
These 20 Francophone youth from Evangeline and Charlottetown regions (aged 9-14 years) sold their products, which range from candies to handcrafts, at various events and locations throughout the Island, including the Lobster Carnival Sidewalk Sale in Summerside, Old Home Week in Charlottetown and the National Acadian Holiday festivities in Abram’s Village on Aug. 15.
Later this month, they’ll also participate in the Party Under the Tent at Wellington Co-op and at the Evangeline Area Agricultural Exhibition and Acadian Festival.
“The training sessions, the production lines as well as the sales activities have given these hard-working youth some pretty impressive entrepreneurial experience this summer,” affirms coordinator Brittany Gallant. “I am certain that several of them will become entrepreneurs when they grow up. They’ve got a natural flair for business.”
She adds that the support and encouragement of citizens and tourists is a primary factor in the success of this program; without clients, the kids would have simply abandoned their projects.
Again this year, RDÉE Prince Edward Island is delivering the provincial Jeunes millionnaires program, the French version of the Young Millionaires program, which is managed by the Central Development Corporation.
