CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI – Feb. 8, 2013 – A third and final free workshop for Anglophone and Francophone employers, entitled “And after hiring newcomers…”, is being organized by the LIENS project on Thursday, March 7, from 1-4 p.m. at The Great George hotel at 58 Great George St., Charlottetown.

This session – hosted by Lori-Ann Cyr, president of Diversis Inc. of Moncton, N.-B. – is an integral component of the Conference on Francophone Immigration on PEI, hosted by the Coopérative d’intégration francophone de l’Î.-P.-É. and taking place at the same location March 7-8. Employers and business people have the option of participating in the whole conference or just the workshop.

During her presentation, Cyr will speak mainly about four themes: management of diversity in the workplace; retention of newcomers; the welcoming, establishment, integration and entrenchment of newcomers into the community; and resources available to support employers and newcomers.

The presentation will be given in French but a simultaneous interpretation service will be available so that English-speaking people can understand the messages being transferred.

The LIENS project, whose acronym in French stands for “Linking economic immigration to our successes”, aims particularly to prepare employers to welcome immigrant employees into their fold.

The first session, in January, touched upon the theme “Hiring newcomers: a solution?” and provided an overview of PEI’s demographic trends. The second session, entitled “The process for hiring newcomers”, explained the specific steps that must be followed.

The LIENS project, funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, is managed by RDÉE Prince Edward Island.
