Fundraiser for PEI Jeux de l’Acadie programming

STRATFORD – July 17, 2024 – Organizers of the 18th Acadian Golf Tournament are officially launching the registration period for this popular, friendly competition for both amateur and experienced players, which will be held for the second consecutive time at Stratford’s popular Fox Meadow Golf Course on Sunday, Sept. 8, at 12 noon. Registration deadline is Sept. 2.

The PEI Regional Committee of Les Jeux de l’Acadie and Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI, who are collaborating to organize and promote the tournament, are hoping to raise much more than the record $10,000 collected last year. The event is the only annual fundraising activity for the Regional Committee’s sports, artistic and personal development programming, which reaches more than 250 PEI youth. An important part of this programming will of course be the participation of Island youth in the 44th Finals of the Jeux de l’Acadie next summer in Dieppe, NB. Costs to participate in the Finals are increasing every year.

The Regional Committee is also looking for businesses and organizations to sponsor holes (at a cost of $100 each) and to contribute prizes for various tournament contests. All contributions will be accepted.

TOURNAMENT DETAILS

The organizers have done their utmost to keep the entry fee (including a round of golf, a cart, golf balls, snacks, beverages and supper) at $100 per person or $400 per team of four again this year. Players simply need to bring their own clubs. Players are asked to arrive by 12 noon for registration.

Coordinator Jeannette Gallant explains that this year’s tournament will once again start shotgun style. The tournament will be be played in Mulligan (best ball) format. Here and there along the course, there will be kiosks offering snacks, small games, lotteries and small surprises.
