WELLINGTON – Oct. 30, 2024 – The 30 senior ladies from the Evangeline region who recently took part in a knitting contest were at the same time contributing to the development of the ABCD Park’s playground at Évangéline School in Abram-Village. In fact, their knitted wares were displayed and sold in a silent auction at the Wellington Co-op store during Co-op and Small Business Weeks, generating $410 for the park. Alecia Arsenault (left), event coordinator with the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI, and Chris O’Brien, manager of the Wellington Co-op, were delighted to present the proceeds to Diane McInnis, treasurer of the Évangéline School Parents’ Committee. She graciously accepted the donation. McInnis explained that the groundwork to prepare the location is nearing completion. In addition, Spiderman ninja-styled playground equipment in the Acadian flag colors is arriving and will be installed by two professional installers from Quebec Nov. 11-13. The committee is looking for two to four volunteers to help with the installation each day. Site preparation, purchase, delivery and installation of these devices cost approximately $100,000. The committee is still accepting contributions. The new play equipment will be installed in the space formerly occupied by a large wooden structure.
