Workshop to help employers choose the right candidate for the job

Diana Lariviere lowresWELLINGTON – Jan. 25, 2015 – All French-speaking employers, or more specifically those who are in charge of hiring employees, are invited to participate in a workshop on the theme « Beyond Interviews: Assessing Candidates AND Choosing the Right Fit » Tuesday, Feb. 9, from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Wellington Rural Action Centre. The workshop will take on the form of a lunch-and-learn. Lunch will be served.

Diana Larivière, a staffing specialist and trainer from the bilingual CAWLAR Consulting Firm in Argyle Shore, will lead the session in French. « This workshop will help people who hire personnel to best choose or develop evaluation methods that will facilitate the choice of their best possible candidate for the position that needs to be filled, » she explains.

During the workshop, Larivière will address jobs from a holistic perspective as well as discuss the « bring-learn » ratio, the relative importance of qualifications of the position as well as the supplementary qualifications. She’ll then present various methods of assessment: interviews, written tests, situations and simulations, examples of work, past performances, aptitude tests and evaluation centres, all while presenting the advantages and disadvantages of each option.

She asks participants to bring along a job description for a position they have that is available to fill or have recently filled, along with a list of the job’s qualifications.

This workshop is being presented by the Wellington Rural Action Centre and the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI. The registration fee, to cover the price of lunch, is $5 for members and $10 for non-members.

To register no later than Feb. 5, contact Velma Robichaud at (902) 854-3439, Ext. 228, or velma@rdeeipe.org.
